DiFi for All: Onboarding Research for Unbanked & Underbanked

About DiFi for All
DiFi for All explores how unbanked and underbanked populations in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and Uganda engage with Digital Financial Services. It examines the multitude of factors that act as barriers or enablers and investigates how digital financial services can bridge these gaps.
DiFi for All is the result of a collaborative effort between research partners Somia CX (Indonesia), and Three Stones International (Uganda), BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (Bangladesh), led by Quicksand (India). This project was made possible through the funding and support of the Gates Foundation.
DiFi for All Global Website
On the website you can find stories from real people we met that illustrates the challenges they encounter in the onboarding process in rich format: text, photos, and videos of their daily life and object they use to onboard.
The team has also gathered nine emerging themes that are explained in video format for you to immerse yourself on the stories of people from different countries covered. Dependencies, Trust, Individual vs Shared, Physical / Digital are some of themes you can deep dive into.
You can also explore ideas that challenge the current trajectory of DFS, offering provocations to inspire more thoughtful, inclusive solutions. By rethinking how digital finance interacts with people’s realities, we can move beyond access and towards financial systems that truly support and evolve with their users.
During the webinar launched events, we briefly introduced some of the contents covered on the website and have some discussion on the stories across countries in the panel talk sessions. For you that missed the event or want to rehear the discussions you can find it in the webinar recording listed on the side.
